5 Tips to Help Keep Your Skin Clear
Do you struggle with breakouts or full-blown acne? Most people deal with some degree of acne so do not worry; you are not alone. There are so many tips and tricks out there to help your skin stay clear, but skincare is not a one size fits all kind of thing. Everyone will respond to these tips differently, but I have found that they have helped me with my problematic skin quite a bit. These are just a few of the practices that greatly improved the overall health of my skin and helped to clear up much of my acne.
5: Drinking green tea
It is common knowledge that drinking water can help lead to clear skin, but as said before that is not the case for everyone since skincare is not a one size fits all. I drank water by the gallons and still broke out. However, when I started drinking at least one big cup of green tea a day, I noticed a big difference in my skin. Green tea is known for its antioxidant properties as well as its ability to help balance hormones. I believe that this was the case for me. Drinking 1-2 cups a day greatly reduced my breakouts and helped me feel better in general.
4: Wash your face right after your workout
I know that is can be hard to wash your face as soon as you are done working out, especially after a tough one, but it is important to do so. If you do not wash your face right after, all of the dirt and sweat that just came out of your pores will soak back into your skin and cause breakouts. You do not want to let all that dirt to continue to rest on your skin and not be washed off. You do not even need to use any fancy face wash, just some cold water or plain soap. Save your face washes for your morning and nighttime skincare routines.
3: DO NOT pick at your skin
I bet you have been told to not pick at your skin a million times, but it is truly so bad for you to do so. When you pick at a breakout, you are spreading those germs around to the rest of your face and that will cause more breakouts. If you do feel the need to pop a zit make sure you wash your hands and wash your face right after to avoid spreading the germs and bacteria.
2: Do not do too much to your skin
While it is important to have a good skincare routine, be sure to not do too much to your skin. You can strip your skin completely of its natural oils and barriers if you over wash or over-exfoliate. When I was younger I scrubbed my skin every night with baking soda and I ruined my skin. Be gentle with your skin and be sure to not make your breakouts worse by scrubbing them too much or using too many products.
1: Wash your blanket and pillowcases frequently
Breakouts can often be caused by the build-up of dirt and oils on your pillowcases and blankets. Make sure that you are washing the items that your sleep with at least once a week with a detergent and fabric softener that does not irritate your skin. It feels so good to be able to sleep on clean sheets and pillows every night so be sure to do your skin this favor and wash what you sleep with the most.
These are just a few tips that I have found very helpful in my skin health journey. These tips may help you or they may not. Skincare is different for everyone and it is often a long series of trial and error. However, I strongly encourage you to at least try a few of these tips to see if they help you with your breakouts!
